AI that works inside the financial world.
VARRD builds AI agents inside financial institutions, for research, operations and risk. This is what each one does, and why it works differently from a general AI.
An AI agent inside a financial institution does one job, on the desk's own data, with every action recorded. Here is what VARRD's agents actually do.
What one of these agents actually is
A general chat assistant will talk about anything you ask it. An agent built for a financial institution does not work that way. It has one narrow job: a research question, an exception queue, a risk feed. Nothing more.
It runs on the desk's own data and the desk's own workflow, not a guess about how the world usually works. Every action it takes is recorded, so a person can trace what it did, and why, after the fact.
The agent does not do its own math. A separate tool calculates every number: a return, a probability, a flagged exception. The agent reads that number and explains what it means. Tools calculate, the AI interprets. An AI that can invent its own numbers cannot be trusted with them.
The research analyst: VARRD Validation
Validation takes a trading idea in plain language and turns it into a formula. It tests that formula against decades of data, with guardrails that stop the AI, or you, from fooling yourselves.
You can use it yourself, self-serve, at app.varrd.com. You can also point your own AI agent at it. Validation is reachable over MCP, so an agent you run can describe an idea, watch it get charted, and read back a verdict, with no person typing every step. See connecting your agent to VARRD.
It is fine-tuned on the tests of 500+ traders and 20,000 hypotheses, so it knows the shape of a real edge, and the shape of a lucky run that only looks like one.
The operations sentinel: VARRD Ops
Every operations desk ends the day with exceptions: trades that did not match, transfers that did not settle, records that do not agree. Someone has to clear them before the next morning starts.
VARRD Ops does that work around the clock. We call the AI worker a sentinel. Its job is to watch a queue and act on it, not to chat about it. It is built from years of exceptions a real operations desk has handled, so it knows the shape of the problem before it ever sees yours.
The promise is simple: exceptions cleared before morning. A person reviews what the sentinel did, not what it might do next.
The risk watch: VARRD Risk
Risk management is usually reactive. Something breaks, and only then does a desk work out why. VARRD Risk moves that watch earlier. It is trained on proprietary black swan data and runs around the clock, watching for the shape of the next one before it arrives.
The promise here is risk seen before the loss, not risk explained after it.
Why this is different from a general LLM
A general LLM answers from what it was trained on: public text, public numbers, no view into a specific firm. It can sound confident about a market, or a process, it has never actually seen.
VARRD's agents work a different way, in four steps. Access: we build inside clearing firms, brokers and operations desks, on their real data and their real processes. Build: we build products on the assets behind that access. Strip: the firm's proprietary data never leaves; only the product does. Offer: what is left goes out to the rest of the financial world.
That order matters. The access and the guardrails come first. The AI comes after, working inside limits it did not set and cannot override on its own.
How a firm starts
It starts with a conversation: what does the desk handle today, and where does the work actually go. Then a working session on your own real cases, so you watch the agent do the work before anyone signs anything. Out of that comes a scope: what the agent takes on, and what stays with your people.
Validation you can start today, on your own, for free. Ops and Risk are built with each desk, on that desk's own cases. See Validation, Ops and Risk, or read how Capital trades on the same tools we offer.
Questions people ask
- What is an AI agent inside a financial institution?
- It is software with one narrow job, built on a desk's own data and its own workflow. It never invents a number: a separate tool computes every statistic, chart or flagged exception, and the agent explains what the result means. Every action it takes is recorded, so a person can trace exactly what happened.
- How is this different from a general AI chatbot?
- A general chatbot answers from public text and can sound confident about a market or a process it has never actually seen. VARRD's agents work inside a firm, on that firm's real data, under guardrails that do not relax. Nothing of the firm's proprietary data leaves; only the product built on top of it does.
- What is VARRD Validation?
- Validation is the research analyst. You describe a trading idea in plain language, and it turns that idea into a formula and tests it against decades of data. You can use it yourself at app.varrd.com, or point your own agent at it over MCP.
- What is a VARRD sentinel?
- A sentinel is the AI worker behind VARRD Ops. It clears an operations desk's exceptions around the clock, built from years of exceptions a real desk has handled, so the night's queue is cleared before morning.
- How does a firm start working with VARRD?
- It starts with a conversation about what the desk handles today. Then a working session on the firm's own real cases, so people watch the agent work before anything is signed. That session ends in a scope: what the agent takes on, and what stays with people.
